Risky Business

For the past decade, Syria has been in a devastating civil war. The totalitarian government shows little support towards the civilians and has even attacked them with chemical weapons, which violate numerous war laws. Journalists have risked their lives to try to get an inside glimpse into the lives of Syrian civilians and refugees alike, even though it may cost them their lives. Journalist James Foley stated that the reason why he and other journalists risk their lives to shine light on the Syrian situation is because "we're not close enough to it", which is true. A lot of Americans have no idea what the current situation is in Syria. We know it's bad, but we have no idea how serious it is. According to a statistic by https://www.amnestyusa.org/syria-is-a-dangerous-place-for-journalists-but-heres-why-we-need-them-there/, approximately 20 journalists are missing or being held captive in Syria. These people are risking their lives to help the ones affected by the crisis. They use pictures of the devastated houses, churches and schools to make the public aware of how dire the situation is in these parts of the world. By evoking their emotions, they're able to continue to raise awareness of the situation going on, and convince others to help.
