When distributing news through newspapers, it is very important to make your paper stand out to draw readers in. I recently compared two newspapers to see their personal strategies. In The Carroll County Review I noticed that they used 2 very large pictures on the front page, so big that the pictures end up taking more space than the actual words themselves. While in The Daily Courier they used a couple smaller pictures while the words took up more space. I think the bigger pictures draw the reader in by giving them an idea what the article is going to be about with out having to read anything. This is explained in the article Usage of News Pictures In Newspaper by Jennifer Ehidiamen. She explains, "Readers enter the newspaper pages through large pictures and a headline, thus adding a visual element makes the stories more likely to be read." While The Daily Courier has some pictures, more readers will be drawn to The Carroll County Review because the pictures are bigger and more welcoming to readers.
