Separating the ‘Real’ news from the ‘Fake’

jpizzle4

We hear the phrase “fake news” a lot nowadays. The word “fake” has become synonymous with the word “news” so much that when you hear one word, you automatically assume the other will either follow or proceed. What exactly is fake news?

Fake news is misinformation about a person or event created to mislead the audience.

Why would someone deliberately lie?

To save face? To gain favor? To create frenzy?

Whatever the reason, whoever the culprit, fake news does no one any good.

Why, though, is it so interesting?

Because of the scandal? Because of the salaciousness? Because of the susceptibility?

“Even as Americans recognize that fake news causes confusion about current issues and events, they continue to circulate it,” wrote Denise-Marie Ordway.

Still, not good for anybody.

Thankfully, there are people dedicated to righting the wrongs of journalism. Entire websites are geared to making sure true information is available to all regardless the popularity of the lies created. We have all wondered if there is any truth to some of the outlandish stories that we’ve heard at one time or another. Now, we can be at least mostly sure of a story’s validity.
