Silencing Journalism

aespersen1

You may have heard of the protests earlier last year of the police brutality against people of color, mainly Black and African Americans. Thousands of people across the country and in others across the world marched to show awareness of the injustices occurring in the police force. Protesters were not the only ones who were attacked and assaulted in those protests. The hundreds of journalists were also assaulted and were pushed to be silenced. According to James Wahutu, 313 journalists were attacked and 190 journalists were attacked in May alone. He also mentioned that we need to start calling this period "an erosion of democracy" These attacks were a prime example of how the police are mishandling the oppositional stance. But they can never truly silence the media. The truth always prevails.
