Slacktivism

Luke Mucha

In his article titled "Russian bots are just today’s slacktivists" Jonas Kaiser discussed the misinformation in todays media and causes of it. He explains how people who are "slacktavists" are both misinforming and being misinformed due to there lack of checking all their sources for information. It has ushered in an era of fake news and makes the access of accurate information difficult. He then has a call to action for journalists to fight misinformation. He explains that although many journalists are learning to work around misinformation, knowing when to call it out and not can also be beneficial for the future of journalism. "Journalists have also learned not to emphasize every outrageous claim, when to employ strategic silence, and when to shine a light on the hideous side of today’s slacktivism."(Kaiser)
