Snakes Lie in Wait

vwhite168

Often I find myself wondering how does one even stumble upon ‘fake news’ and believe the validity of such claims. Growing up we were always told to never believe the tabloids or the trash magazines, so surly the same line of thought would apply to dubious news sites on the internet. According an article written by Stanford Engineering “Much like a virus, the researchers say that over time being exposed to multiple strains of fake news can wear down a person’s resistance and make them increasingly susceptible. The more times a person is exposed to a piece of fake news, especially if it comes from an influential source, the more likely they are to become persuaded or infected.” The relate the spread of fake news akin to ill contained virus and I am inclined to believe that description. Social media creates an over saturated festering ground for fake news to grow and gain power. Like a field of wildflowers, beautiful to look at but you can not see the snakes hiding in the underbrush waiting to bite.
