I decided to research "if social media is killing journalism instead" of saving it. NiemanLab's article, Think twice before turning to Twitter, explains how the use of social media in news stories undermines public trust as many journalists begin to start to rely on twitter. Since many journalists "treat tweets as if they are already verified and in need of no further journalistic processing", there is a lot of misinformation on the internet that leads people to not believe news sources anymore. In the future, journalists should break the cycle of using social media and switch back to traditional styles to gain back the public's trust.
