The amazing world of sports enables people to have passion for an entertaining universe of dedication, drama, and dreams. The development of the new media age has given way for media corporation to cover sports 24/7. Whether it be ESPN, FOX Sports, etc., each source has both fascinating similarities and unique differences.
For this post, I will take a look at how ESPN and FOX Sports compare and contrast in sharing news about sports across the world. It's 2:30 PM on February 19th when I open up both ESPN.com and foxsports.com. Starting from the top of the page, I notice the long horizontal "strip" of upcoming games and past scores. What's interesting is the fact that both websites have that same feature. I strongly believe they do this to keep the viewer interested in what is going on in sports. Especially since they're viewing an actual statistic instead of a bunch of words. This makes me think there is some coordination with certain research that leads them to establish this feature.
On the other hand, their sites differ in the way they communicate news by their articles. ESPN establishes their articles by believed relevance. For instance, an article about a big NFL trade will be prioritized on the website over an article about a soccer club firing their coach. However, on Fox Sports, their articles are shuffled together and they prefer to communicate with pictures rather than so many words.
Jim Morrison said "Whoever controls the media, controls the mind." This is important to think about especially when having debates with friends about sports. If you think about it, a person bases their debate argument off of whatever they hear, read, etc. Therefore, it is important that we use this example to grow in our online browsing.
