The new rumor is that Spotify will launch a news channel. This will make Spotify stand out from its competitors, such as Apple. Spotify podcast have grown popularity in the past years and now they will fill in another gap of music apps by providing news. According to Salmon, “It would be a curated playlist of individual podcast episodes, much as Spotify already puts together curated playlists of music.” Other competitors may not have this ability. Spotify had a similar product called the Daily Drive, the playlist with a mix of music and news. We don’t know how this will be different from previous product, but it will be a new platform for access to news, and replacement for radio. If they were to make a product with different genres of news, they would have a better target of audience who would only be attracted to a certain topic of news.
