Spotting Fake News

tgutierrez63

In a world so integrated with social media, it is very easy for misinformation to be created and spread at incredible speeds. It is very important to be able to identify this fake news so you are able to stay well informed with the proper information. A few things you can look for to make sure the information you are seeing is accurate is to first look at the source and see if it is credible. You should also research the author and read into the article to see if it has any illogical mistakes. The most important thing to look out for is bias because "confirmation bias leads people to put more stock in information that confirms their beliefs and discount information that doesn’t." (Kiely and Robertson). This bias can make you want to believe information that may not actually be true.
