“Fake news is a growing threat, and advances in technology are making it harder to spot” (Rebekah Friedman 2). Fake news has been an ongoing issue in not only the US but the entire world. From organized media using fear mongering as a strategy to keep the public in check to the ill-informed in America. However, some people in the US are trying to publicize tools and other strategies to avoid fake news and help others combat it too. “Fake news is the latest moniker that we have applied to misinformation and disinformation,” Friedman 23). Fake news is the spread of misinformation. It is not always done on purpose, misinterpretation of titles and headlines can lead to the consumer being misinformed by the news they are consuming and in turn, the ideals and beliefs gathered from the fake news being spread amongst consumers. This is one of many steps towards combating fake news according to the University of Southern Carolina that I will cover in other blog posts.
