Stopping Fake News

mmoore61

There are many fact checking sites that try to debunk any stories that need to be corrected. Some of these sites include the widely known Snopes.com, FactCheck.org, and the political fact checker, PolitiFact.com. These sites take an articles information and researches as much as they can to try and determine how true a story is. Snopes’ “Transparency” page states that they usually begin by “attempting to contact the source of the claim for elaboration and supporting information.” They proceed to do their own independent research and analysis of the information and provide their findings to the public. So, while it may not be possible for each person to be this thorough in their news collecting, stopping by one of these fact checking sites (where people get paid to find the truth!) might help to at least slow the spread of misinformation.
