Stopping Fake News

tpowell24

The amount of fake news in the world has exponentially increased as the internet has grown in popularity. Instinctively, many people feel that arguing with the false information is the best way to reduce its spread. However, Tom Buchanan, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Westminster believes that “the best way to react to fake news and reduce its impact - may be to do nothing at all” (par. 1). This is because then less people will see the disinformation. By interacting with the false information, more people are likely to see which is why it “can spread far and fast” (par. 7). Stopping interactions with fake news will allow for factually correct information to be spread to more people.
