They have been previously unsuccessful, even sending their CEO Mark Zuckerberg when he censored information he said was false, but his real motive was to sway political opinions. Facebook has started using "fact checking organizations from different countries." They have been able to stop misinformation from getting out and causing true problems. Initiatives like this have helped users to feel safer on the platform, therefore bringing more traffic to the app. The platform is also able to label things as partly false, where the information is able to stay up, but lets users know it is flagged. They have been able to add "warning labels on about 50 million pieces of content related to COVID-19."
