According to a prediction by Mira Lowe, 2020 will be the year of student journalism. She states, “....on the ground will be increasingly owned by student journalists covering social and political issues affecting communities and states.” Lowe believes things we will need to watch out for are community and investigative reporting throughout English speaking and bilingual platforms. She also believes there will be an increase in election coverage among young people.
I agree that student journalism is on the rise. I think this is because college-aged students can accurately represent the thoughts and opinions of young people. I hope to see more student journalism, but the problem is they are hard to access. Student journalists may not be mainstream and their articles will not be the first to pop up with a google search.
