The future of journalism is at stake due to the “harassment” and “horrifying and deteriorating status quo” journalists have to face. But the time has come to push back and start a new movement toward something positive. But everyone has to take part in it, including the people with influence and power. With the advancement of technology, social media has become a big part of our day to day communication. It has made harassing someone very easy. People can post mean comments and they can remain anonymous for their own safety and these things make it harder to fight back. “During the recent Canadian election, ParityBOT tried to combat every negative tweet against a female political candidate with a positive one” which helped to fight off negativity and different organizations are also working on “constructive comments” to implement on their “comments section” which will lead to a breakthrough in the future. But solidarity is the key which we can see from the recent “Black Lives Matter” movement and everything it has achieved or is trying to achieve. The movement gained popularity through social media and people’s support. If the journalists with power raise their voice in this matter and help out their fellow journalist it will encourage more solidarity in journalism and the history of media harassment will finally be over. It might seem far fetched but it’s possible if everyone works together.
