Testing, Mic check 1-2-3

Podcasts and other forms of audio production are now entering the world of journalism. According to research, podcasts have gained a lot of popularity in 2020 and 15 percent of these podcasts have turned into news podcasts (Hoffman). The Reuters Institute Digital News Report estimated that about “90 million people listen to podcasts each month in the United States,” which is double the amount since 2015 (Newman).

I found it interesting that The New York Times’ The Daily and NPR’s Up First were the top news podcasts with an audience of about 2 million people a day. Also, researchers predict that there will be a billion-dollar industry in audio media by 2021. Kerri Hoffman is optimistic that the introduction of podcasts to journalism will help journalists reach a broader audience. As someone who has never listened to a podcast, I look forward to trying this new source for getting information.
