Texas Winter Madness

According to ABC News, "More than 2.9 million customers in Texas were without power Wednesday morning." "At least nine people have died in Texas, including four family members who died in a fire started by a fireplace." "Three died of carbon monoxide poisoning, and two men found by the side of the road in Houston believed to have died in sub-freezing temperatures." Let us not forget the 130 car pile-up in Fort Worth that caused six people to lose their lives and injured 30 plus people. This storm has been a nightmare for some Texans!

I checked in with a couple of family members today to see how they were doing. My sister-in-law, who lives in the Collin County area, states, "My family and I are doing fine. We're managing with the power rollouts. The grocery stores are open, and we were able to stock up on frozen meals to hold us tight during the storm." I was thankful to hear my sister-in-law was doing well. However, some of my family members were having difficulties. My cousin, who lives in Desoto, TX, stated, "our power has been out for more than 24hours, and the restaurants and grocery stores closed."

After talking to my family members, this leaves me to question our government in the state of TX. Why was Texas not prepared for a storm we knew was coming? Why are some receiving the power rollouts and some are not? Why are stores closed in some areas but not in others? I am not sure if we will ever get the truth behind these questions, but I hope this is a learning lesson for all Texans. Also, I hope that no matter what zip code you live in, we will all get the same treatment in the future.
