The Cycle of Boredom and Work

Within the last few decades, advancement in technology and our culture has led many Americans down a path seeking to be more productive. The countless individuals who are the early birds seem to have something that many of us desire to have, which is a high driving motor of being able to get stuff done. I was recently talking to a friend about our current lives in quarantine and how our work and schedule changed from boredom to work in a matter of weeks. He stated “ it was crazy to see how our boredom changes so rapidly into work when we are motivated to stop being lazy.”(Buliva) This got me thinking about the relationship between boredom and laziness, which led me to read up on this topic. Through the blog known as FacileThing, the value of boredom has been viewed as both a “‘productivity killer”’ and a way to “‘ improve your productivity.”(Sáez) The blog revealed that it is how you view boredom and what you do with that boredom that leads either to productivity or laziness. After reading this, I looked back at what my friend said and realized that his statement is completely valid and holds so much truth in our daily lives in the moments of COVID-19.
