The Failings of ERCOT

Due to the privatization of the electricity sector, Texas doomed itself to fail miserably in the event of a massive weather event, which came true this past week. Nearly 4 million Texans were without power, and as the electricity grid is all within Texas no help could be provided by the surrounding states or the federal government. This type of widespread devastation affected the lives of too many people, causing what some considered a "life and / or death scenario." In the future, Texas must prepare itself against another worst case scenario like the one that took place this past week.
