The Fake News Continue

In my previous post, I talked about the fake news I discovered around COVID-19. I also spoke about the different types of fake news, such as misinformation and disinformation. Now I would like to discuss the "Why?" behind sharing fake news. In my research to finding the answer to my question, I found very little information. However, according to Trend Micro, "the motivation behind fake news is simply a desire for monetary gain via advertising." "In other cases, the goals can vary from the criminal to the political." From what I gather, people are merely looking for attention or want to mislead you from the truth. David A. Grahm, with The Atlantic, stated, "the rise of fake news is making it harder for people to see the truth." I would have to agree with David. I also find it hard to see the truth in the news shared online or through our news station due to the amount of fake news shared every day. Although we fact-check for accuracy, it is still challenging to determine who is providing us with the truth.
