Journalist, James Wahutu is afraid for American Journalism. He claims that right-wing individuals are taking part in an “erosion of democracy” that is rooted in distrust of the media. If this pattern continues to develop, Americans will lose their freedom according to the journalist. With increasing attacks targeting journalists and numerous individuals plastering anti-journalism messages across their social media, Wahutu believes that his profession is deeply in danger. In order to turn the tide, Americans must acknowledge similarities between our situation and those of previous African nations. If and only if we fight against the issues plaguing journalists today, will we be able to maintain the freedoms that we are so proud of.
