The Future of Journalism

After reading the “Predictions for Journalism 2020” by Nieman Lab, I was quite surprised. My initial thoughts were one of confusion, because I didn't realize that it was a collection of quotes from journalists all around the world, who gave their thoughts on what their profession holds for them and all the other journalists in the near future. After reading into it I realized many very focused on the exponential growth of technological advancement in society. As Sarah Marshall said, the writers and designers should “ consider the reader sitting up in bed looking at [their] phone.” This made a lot of sense to me because I find myself only viewing the news on my phone so it would seem logical to create a phone oriented experience. What I found most appalling, however, was how Rachel GIikhouse felt that there is not a lot to “support journalists struggling with job insecurity or job loss.” IF many journalists are fearful for the rise in technology taking their jobs this could put many out of a job. My hope is that some of these predictions don't come to fruition because journalism in my opinion requires a certain level of humanity for the reader to connect which is what makes it so important.
