According to Aaron Foley, who is a journalist from Detroit, a huge failure occurred in the journalist industry which only prefers to hire white, male, and straight. This problem triggers dangerous inequality in our society. The main role of journalists is that they should educate the public about the event by researching, writing, and filing news articles. However, this strict and narrow qualification to become journalist limits young and diverse talented journalists to represent their ethnicity. For example, Foley said that several black journalists from Detroit, his hometown, faced a lot of difficulties to maintain their jobs even though Detroit is the nation’s largest Black city. He strongly argues that "one potential solution that could aid in the development of young, diverse talent, as well as expand an audience for general-market publications, is to explore synergies between community weeklies and metro dailies."
