The saying “Knowledge is Power” is very accurate today, however, the American public has slowly been losing trust in the news companies. As trust decreases, many other cheaper (or free) sources of information arise with our modern technology; the journalism industry might need to find another approach to their business model. You would expect a journalism company to be for-profit, however, nonprofit journalism could be the key to reaffirming public trust in the news. There are several nonprofit journalism companies in the world currently that are founded by the local patrons. Alfred Hermida and Mary Lynn Young wrote “It may be one way to start to repair the loss of trust in and public engagement with journalism in North America.” This next step of the journalism industry into the nonprofit areas could save the industry’s need for public trust and constant revenue.
