The Race and Gender Discussion

Errin Haines predicts that in 2020, up until November, gender and race will be major news stories especially surrounding the presidential race. She states, “All have set the stage for a 2020 election in a deeply divided America, with some of the clearest fault lines lying at the intersection of sex and racial identity.”

Towards the start of the race, many candidates from different races, backgrounds, and genders were running. But slowly, these candidates left one by one. The current Democratic candidates, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have made efforts to appeal to voters of color and women. Although I agree that race and gender are still big topics of discussion 2020, the unprecedented happened with COVID19. Now the candidates are more focused on discussing issues related to health insurance and public health rather than race and gender. In my opinion, if COVID19 had not become such a big issue, gender and race would have been the biggest topics of discussion in the presidential race.
