According to a prediction by Meg Marco regarding journalism in 2020, “The gap between what local and national audiences want to read will continue to shrink.” Marco believes that in 2020, local journalists will have to provide the readers with context on how their local news fits in with national news instead of only the other way around.
Personally, I’m curious to see how this will play out if her prediction is correct. Usually, the national news has to provide readers with information about how the news impacts them on a local level. It will be interesting to see how national audiences would react to local news. A seemingly normal thing for locals may be seen as shocking for national audiences.
