Subconsciousness Theory:
Imagine yourself sitting in the passenger seat of a four-door sedan. You sit in the car until you arrive at your destination, and then you exit the vehicle. Obviously, this situation isn’t the most exciting or memorable experience, and the memory of sitting in the car slips into your subconscious. Sometime later, you find yourself sitting in the passenger seat of another four-door sedan, and the familiarity overwhelms you until you experience déjà vu. Since your subconscious mind’s “capacity is virtually unlimited,” any memory from any point in your life your stir up déjà vu.
The theory essentially states that déjà vu boils down to an extreme sense of familiarity in a given situation based on a memory that has fallen into our subconscious. While our brain registers the similarities, our conscious brain cannot fully connect the situations and recall the initial experience as a memory.
