The perspective and life of the journalist play a big role in the content and how they present their information. Riley Lockett, a 19-year-old journalist that works with YR Media, uses journalism as a method to protest against systemic racism. In his podcast with Al Leston, Lockett goes over the reasons he continues protesting and reporting on the racial injustices in America. He expressed the reason he keeps going out is that he can’t “just can’t stand by and be on the wrong side of history”. This perspective is caused by his experiences growing up and the experiences of those he empathizes with. He utilizes his perspective to influence others, especially the youth, to become active in current-day issues and events.
