📷While reading NiemanLab Predictions for Journalism 2020. I came across an article from Tonya Mosley a co-host of news show Here and Now. She states that she still has experiences a touch of racism in her work field as an African American. She had been asked if she was able to report an unbiased news article on a death of an African American by a police officer. In her article she states “Remember, you hired them because they are smart and capable journalists. Let them do their jobs.” It is upsetting to see that this is still happening in our day and age. She even mentions that there can be biasedness from other races as well. For example, if a white person is reporting on a death of another white person by a person of different race, how are we to say they are for sure going to be unbiased? Reporters know going into their field that they are to try and push all opinions aside and just state facts. This shouldn’t even be a question asked by a journal employer.
