Twitter Fights Fake News

jwatson507

News sites and social media platforms are constantly trying to catch the attention of people who click on their site. Recently many social media platforms have embedded a way to broadcast news to their audience. Whether it be the newest gossip with celebrities or political topics, these websites are trying to find ways to make their article catch readers eyes. Because people are trying to hook readers in, a lot of misinformation can be spread. Luckily, social media platforms, like Twitter, have realized this and are starting to prevent misinformation from circulating. Towards the end of January 2021, Twitter introduced a "feature meant to bolster its effect to combat misinformation", called Birdwatch. Birdwatch is being used on their news page and fact checking many tweets. Although it. is a new feature, it has already removed or added warning to tweets that are spreading fake news.
