Twitter's Fight against Fake News

tpowell24

Many people know that the social media app Twitter has struggled with widespread disinformation. To combat this issue, the platform “is asking its users for help in combating fake news” (Clayton par. 1). The goal of this movement is to decrease the amount of disinformation spread on the app and moderate the information on it. It plans to do this by allowing “users to flag tweets they believe to be ‘misleading or false,’” which will allow for disinformation to be spread less easily and frequently (Clayton par. 7). While the social media platform does already have some labels that display possible misleading information, the app still sees the spread of a lot of false information which is why it has resorted to asking users to aid its effort as well.
