Rhetorical strategies are a critical component to the success of social media sites today. I am going to compare the rhetorical strategies most commonly used by Facebook and Twitter. Both are social media sites that are a place for people to share their opinions, gather news and a lot of times, get into arguments with people who they don't agree with.
In more recent years, Twitter has become a platform for even the President of the United States to voice his opinion. This is not found as much on Facebook, in my opinion. Twitter uses enticing headlines to convince readers to follow a hashtag or read through at trending topic. Twitter employeess are able to pick and choose what is shown on the trending page and seen by the public. One of their top headlines right now is "Brazil reaches one million COVID-19 cases while recording biggest single-day case jump" (https://twitter.com/i/events/1274137033754079232). This headline appeals to everyone worldwide because COVID-19 has affected everyone around the world. Seeing this statistic makes the audience want to click and read more.
Facebook does not seem to be as biased as twitter. Although they do censor and block certain things, they seem to do this to a lesser degree than Twitter. To me, Facebook is used more to communicate with friends and family and not so much aimed at sharing news.
