UK Leaves European Union

Anju Canty

On June 23, 2016, England decided to leave the European Union. This event is known as “Brexit”, or “Britain’s exit”. However, “the vote was extremely divided by geographic lines; Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain, while England and Wales voted to leave”. After England’s decision to leave the European Union, the nation suffered some political consequences. The following day “Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation”. David Cameron was replaced by Theresa May. “The British Pound fell over 12% and the stock market plummeted”. The news about England leaving the EU made it to international papers more than the US. The United States. For the most part, all papers reporting on the event wrote them in a negative perspective. The United States only reported on how Britain’s Exit negatively impacted the “local economy and tourism industry”.
