Do you ever wonder if what you're reading is real news? I remember when the recent passing of Kobe Bryant happened my husband and I first saw it on our phones, and both of us were like - no that isn't real. Same thing when we heard Michael Jackson had passed away. I have often correlated fake news with social media but interestingly enough, I read an article posted on the Facebook media blog where the author discussed their efforts for maintaining accurate information on their platform. The article went on to discuss how the fake news is generally motivated by money and tries to push people towards a decision without accurate information. Facebook in particular actually uses a third party company (in addition to their own circle) along with artificial intelligence to fact check. This in turn makes it difficult for those looking for financial gain to purchase ads on the Facebook platform.
