Disinformation is different from fake news. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of disinformation is “deliberately misleading or biased information; manipulated narrative or facts; propaganda,” while fake news is "purposefully crafted, sensational, emotionally charged, misleading or totally fabricated information that mimics the form of mainstream news.” Because of their distinct purposes, there are different strategies in tricking believing in disinformation and fake news.
Based on a study from the ODI organization, one of the most typical techniques of spreading is used by most social media platforms. Why is that? Because of the “viral qualities” as they want to “promote popular content that provokes strong emotions.” Not only that, Facebook and WhatsApp groups also take advantage of fake news stories to spread disinformation among people.
This could leave us a question: “Can we really trust any big name company anymore?”
