What the Future Holds For Journalists

gcowan34

After reading NiemanLab's Predictions for Journalism in 2021, I was able to hear multiple perspectives from a variety of different journalists. I think one of the first and most pressing issues journalists and journalism as a whole face is lack of diversity. As Aaron Foley put it best, "readership is inextricably tied to representation". It's also necessary to prepare for the gradual shift of power to the younger generations in journalism. Journalists Julia B. Chan and Kim Bui both agreed that before 2020, the older generations didn't think that millennials were ready to run things, but that they have proven themselves to be capable. Many journalists also seem to think that with the change in presidents, there will be changes in journalism. Heidi Tworek commented that "organizations will also have to move beyond the boozy hit of reporting on Trump’s latest tweets". Another journalist, C.W. Anderson also presented the question "journalism changed under Trump — will it keep changing under Biden?"
