What the Public Wants

After all of the losses from 2020 (lost jobs, lost lives, lost trust in authority), there’s no doubt that bouncing back in 2021 was going to be difficult. According to Pablo Boczkowski from Predictions for Journalism 2021, "audiences have revolted," and he asks, "will newsrooms adapt?" Unfortunately, there is no clear answer, but it is scary to think that most news reporters and journalists get little to no say in how the story they put into the world is skewed or worded, since that all comes from their higher-ups, who (try to) get their information from the people they feed the news to. At the end of the day, journalists are at the mercy of the people, so they are forced to tell the story the audience wants to hear, rather than what they need to hear.
