This is the second part of me covering the methods that Social Media companies use to draw in the user’s attention with visual rhetoric. Last time I compared Snapchat and Instagram’s Explore and Discover pages.
Now I am going to compare Facebook and Twitter news feeds. Facebook is a little more intimate and is like Instagram but without the necessary photo to post. It connects friends and family online (just like most social media platforms). Facebook also has a lot of professionals using the platform for their business. Scott Cornell said that on both Facebook and Twitter there is “enormous popularity of both social networks, not just for personal use but also for business uses.” However, Twitter is more about immediate updates in someone’s personal life as well as in the world. The updates range from what Kylie Jenner has just released from her company to Twitter battles of random things. Both apps use frequent ads throughout their news feeds.
Neither of these sources is completely reliable, but they are more recent (that draws in the user) than a news article that is published a few hours after the event.
