According to a post made by NiemanLab regarding predictions for journalism in 2020, I learned of the term “gerrymandering.” This term was used after stating that, “coverage of the 2020 U.S. presidential elections will mark the beginning of gerrymandering news coverage. In short, the term gerrymandering means “… a way that governing parties try to cement themselves in power by titling the political map in their favor.” The prediction about coverage in 2020 that was made by Niemanlab is based on the 2018 elections that changed the way journalism was presented. In their post, I learned that journalism in 2018 was “location-based news” that evidently notified certain demographics according to their political affiliation. This meant that journalism was not only targeted to one audience but one sided as well. Due to way journalism was presented in 2018, NiemanLab boldly states that there will be a repeat of this in 2020.
