Punk music is one of the more important sub-genres of music in the industry. Why is it so important? Well, most genres seem to only talk about sex, dating, drinking (I’m looking at you, country), etcetera. However, Punk likes to talk about the government, point out racism and sexism, and all the while telling the world to get off its pedestal and to “screw itself”. Punk Rock is “rock and roll bored down to its bare bones,” written in the article “A Short History of How Punk Became Punk: From Late 50s Rockabilly and Garage Rock to The Ramones & Sex Pistols”, to compare early Rock and Roll to the beginning of Punk Rock. Both genres frequently wrote in opposition of the government, yet Punk is much more aggressive. Punk is very important because it created other sub-genres and continues to show and talk about the issues in this world.
