Lately in the U.S., the number of coronavirus cases has been climbing. This is why the media is stressing "social distancing" or increasing the physical space between yourself and others. It is recommended that there should be at least six feet of space between yourself and other people, but why is this so important? According to the CDC, "The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading very easily and sustainably between people" especially "between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet)" (CDC). I called a few friends and family members to get there opinion on social distancing and why they believe it is helpful or pointless. The first person I contacted was my dad, Al. He believes that "social distancing is important. This isn't just the flu. This is a world pandemic" (Al Carnley). I also contacted my friend, Sigourney. Her reaction couldn't be any more different from my dad's. "I'm still going to go out and live my life. It's mostly dangerous to the elderly or people with respiratory issues anyway" (Sigourney Goodwin). After asking people their opinions, I noticed that the younger people seem to be more care free about the virus, whereas the older generations of people seemed to have their concerns. Personally, I feel that social distancing is important and will help reduce the spread of the virus, but at the same time, it is important that people can still go do what they need to do such as get groceries and work. I think the most important thing to do during this pandemic is to stay at least six feet apart and wash your hands anytime you get home from the store, work, etc.
