After the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were canceled due to COVID-19, many were left wondering if the world would get to see the summer Olympics in Tokyo. Many athletes that have been training for years to compete on the highest level might not get to display their talent and skill. After months of waiting, it was announced the plan was to begin the games in late July. Although many are optimistic that the summer games will happen, many are questioning if it is safe enough for the athletes. Some projections say Japan will not reach good vaccination levels by the projected start date. Athletes will have to decide if they want to risk it because the Japanese government says “the national government is fully committed to delivering a safe and secure Games."
