This past week Texas has experienced a winter storm that we were not prepared for as a state. The record low temperatures caused rolling blackouts and many to lose electricity throughout the entire state. One of the many factors that caused the electricity problems was the fact that Texas' wind turbines froze over. "Wind farms across the state generate up to a combined 25,100 megawatts of energy. But unusually moist winter conditions in West Texas brought on by the weekend's freezing rain and historically low temperatures have iced many of those wind turbines to a halt.", wrote the Austin American-Statesman. Due to the fact that wind turbines make up 25% of the state's power grid, this led to many homes being left in the dark.
