Women seem to be presented as just—and only—women. Women don’t have personality or stories or anything useful to contribute… or do they? Women’s opinions are not represented in media in a credible or fair way, and Christa Scharfenberg thinks it’s time for that to change. The misrepresentation can likely be blamed some on women, too, because we try to be “careful not to alienate the men in the room or offend the funders who have so generously invested in our organizations”, but that is doing a huge injustice to women. She shares some great ideas on how to ensure women are “respected, treated fairly, and supported” at work, including things like not treating women as the mom of the office, working together, making investments in the people working with you, and so many more. If we can implement these in the world of journalism (and maybe even outside of there!!) the workforce can be so much nicer for women.
