Back in February of this year (2021), the entire state of Texas was thrown into a massive snowstorm with very little preparation. Of course, the rest of the world stared in wonder as pipes burst and houses froze over, but there were still some people, journalists, to be exact, that were on the clock. “It’s really mentally very challenging,” claimed Texas Tribune editorial director Stacy-Marie Ishmael, “it’s quite something talking to folks who say, ‘hold on, I think my pipes are bursting, but I’ll file [a story] as soon as I can.’" A plethora of journalists that lived in the state of Texas took advantage of the once-in-a-decade disaster, keeping track of everything that went down in their house, what went wrong and what went right. Most of them thought it was weird to use personal examples for their reports, but it was a nice, new challenge that a lot of them gladly took over.
